My Marae Recount

THE NOHO MARAE

On  the 1 / 2  of May, term   two 2019, Room seven, Room five , teachers
and some parents went on the noho marae for camp. We went to the marae
overnight to learn  about our local marae.

Looking in the marae
Wow  the inside  is amazing!  The Carvings and the Pounamu are
awesome I said to Tanya (my mum).   Some time later Jerry came in and
he introduced  himself. Jerry said that we can go and look at  the
carvings. He said that I will tell you some stories  later of the carvings.
Then everyone did there mihi. After Jerry said we could go to the kai room
and have some morning tea. “The kai kai was delicious,” I said to Billie. . After
that we got 10 minutes of play.  Me and my friends played tag. I got targeted
and I got a little upset. But It was fun.

         Looking for Pounamu
Then it was finally time to go down the hill to look for pounamu.   My group
was the last one to go down the hill. When we got down past the hill Jerry said
that we had to go down one at a time because  it was very slippery. Jerry
said not to look for green and try and find little dots of white and light blue and
green. .Go everyone!  The kids ran fast to look for pounamu. 30 minutes
later I found a big piece of pounamu but after looking at it carefully I knew that
it was not Pounamu so  I threw it away in the pond. Then I found a small piece
right in front of it. I ran fast to Jerry and he said, “Yes it was pounamu.”
“Yay,” I shouted. Then we walked back up the hill. It was tiring walking up the
hill.
            Stories of the Carvings

Now  Jerry   said that  Room 7 and 5 can pick k two carving and he would
tell us the stories that go with the carvings. Room 5 went first To pick  2 stories
. Jerry told us why the carvings had tattoos on them in certain colours. It is
because it means what tribe they are from. The colours were green, blue,
red and black. I'm Blue which is Ngai Tahu.
I loved staying at the marae, it was fun. I liked the night
activities
loved the food!

The end.
